Brandon met Harry when he was very young at the orphanage where they grew up at after they both got beat up by the the care taker for chasing a stray sheet. During their late teens, they formed a small break away gang called the Young Dogs along with three others named Nathan, Kenny and Jolice. Things were going well until they picked on the wrong rival gang. One of the members in that gang happened to be the little brother of a gangster who was thought to be dead, Mad Dog Lad. While out trying to return a necklace to Miranda, a woman who had more power then the mob itself. Jolice stayed behind and got dinner ready as he most often does. But he ended up being shot by Mad Dog because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Right after this happened Brandon went to see Maria, a girl that he had met after saving her from being raped. He also happens to like her and secretly sees her every now and then. But her uncle saw him first so he went out to talk to him. That's when Mad Dog tracked them down. He killed Nathan, Kenny, and Maria's uncle right before Brandon and Harry's eyes. That was before being shot by Bear Walken and his overkills. This was their first encounter with Millenion.

At the graveyard him and Harry pay their respects to their fallen friends and promise to come back and build them the biggest graves they've ever seen. Just then a motorcade housing Maria and Big Daddy, he head of Millenion, and a few bodyguards showed up. He was there to pay respects to Maria's uncle. But at the same time, a rival gang shows up and starts opening fire. After a long winded battle between them and Brandon and Harry along with Big Daddy's guards the survivors retreated. Brandon and Harry were then offered to join up with Millenion. Harry took him up on the offer and Brandon followed.

Harry and Brandon parted ways once they were inducted into millenion. Harry took office work while Brandon worked in the department that had to do with the people who bet on thomases (Yes the same ones that're in Trigun) that didn't pay up. This is where he met Gary and Widge. They became sort of crazy uncles he never had.

One day he disobeyed the orders given to him and went to meet Maria when she got off school. She was shocked to see him after a year. This caught the attention of Big Daddy, who took over being Maria's guardian. He invited Brandon to come to his mansion. He said that he feared for Maria's safety and so hid the fact that millenion existed from her. He didn't want Brandon coming out of nowhere a visiting her like he did so he told him he can come by the mansion and see her whenever he wanted. Big Daddy became like the father he never had. He taught him how to fish and since learning he and Brandon always went fishing together when they wanted some alone time to talk.

Five years later, Brandon worked his way up from dealing with truant thomas racing bets to becoming one of Millenion's top assassins killing off the those who dare betray the family. He even was inducted into the family, the most trusted members of millenion, and became one of Big Daddy's right hand men along with Harry.

In his late 20's He had a sucessful team of assassins called True Grave that he started with Bunji Kugashira a few years before. By this time Harry had become power hungry and was bordering on betraying the family. The fact that Harry almost forgot who Kenny, Nathan and Jolice were and how he wanted to buy the graveyard and the orphanage wasn't helping his feelings any. So Brandon made secret plans with Dr. Tokioka to become a necrolizer, an undead warrior, in the event of his death.

In the elevator Harry started talking about his plans. When he brought up Maria, Brandon drew his gun...but he just couldn't shoot him. He broke down and cried. While his guard was down Harry took this advantage to murder him. Before he knew what hit him, he was shot through the eye then the broken glass from the bullets gave way and he was sent falling out the window. After Brandon's death Harry said he was the one who betrayed the family to cover up the fact that he was the one who did. and everyone believed him.

Thirteen years later, Brandon became Beyond the grave. His aim is still the same as it was before, kill the people who betrayed the family. But this time they're his old friends. He also had a new task, take care of Big Daddy's and Maria's orphaned Daughter Mika, the last remaining link to his the past.

Brandon/Grave is the silent type. He rarely ever says more then five words at a time unless he's explaining something or prove a point. He would rather protect people then kill people. That was one of the reason's he joined up with Millenion in the first place. Even though he's usually pretty calm and passive, he does have a bit of a darker, more ruthless side which shows a lot in Grave. But almost all of the time he's calm quiet and protective and wouldn't harm anything if he didn't have to.

In the end, Grave couldn't bring himself to kill Harry. However both of them were on the brink of death. Harry due to being badly wounded in a shoot out and Grave due to not getting the transfusion he needed to keep him in his undead state. Just as they were both about to be finished off They decided to take each others lives. When Grave Woke up he found himself on the island rather then the afterlife.
